Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This involved attempting to break his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the judge said intelligence from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his escape.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a senator, called for a assembly of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.
